Focus Group Discussion

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Garuda Di Lautku Initiative Foundation held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the utilization of the blue economy, "The Role of the Blue Economy in Supporting Food Security through the Sustainable Utilization of Marine and Coastal Resources," at the BRIN Building, Jakarta, Thursday (July 17).

Indonesia has a geographical advantage as the world's largest archipelagic country. Its vast marine potential must be utilized to strengthen national food security. "The utilization of the sea must be balanced with economic growth and ecosystem sustainability. The blue economy concept is key to sustainable development in the maritime sector," said Amarulla Octavian in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the utilization of the blue economy. (JPNN News)

Environmental activists also responded positively to efforts to achieve food security through maritime environmental preservation. Hanarko Djodi Pamungkas, Advisor to the Garuda di Lautku Initiative Foundation, stated that food security goes hand in hand with a healthy marine ecosystem. He believes that food security must be accompanied by a responsibility to protect the ocean from pollution. "Excessive fishing activities can disrupt the balance of nature," Djodi said.

He noted that in terms of conservation, it is now easier to implement concrete actions thanks to the support of research data from BRIN. He even noted that open access to data and study results is very helpful for efforts on the ground. "With BRIN's open information, we don't need to re-do research. All the data is readily available and open," he said. (JPNN News)
