Jatinangor, January 21, 2026 – The Garuda Di Lautku Initiative Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed leadership of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Universitas Padjadjaran, for the 2026–2030 term under the leadership of Dr. Sunarto. This meeting marked a significant milestone to strengthen ties, review collaborative achievements throughout 2025, and open new avenues for strategic cooperation in 2026 and beyond.
Spirit of Collaboration
The discussion was conducted in a warm atmosphere, reflecting a strong spirit of togetherness. Both parties introduced their respective leadership teams and reaffirmed their commitment to foster synergy between academia and environmental social movements.

Evaluation of 2025 Programs
During the evaluation session, the Garuda Di Lautku Initiative and FPIK Unpad reviewed collaborative programs carried out with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) throughout 2025. The outcomes were recognized as having tangible impacts on strengthening academic capacity while supporting marine conservation and sustainability agendas.

Highlights from Previous Leadership
Under the leadership of former Dean of FPIK Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, a series of landmark initiatives were carried out to advance Indonesia’s fisheries and marine science agenda.
- On July 11, 2025, a high-level seminar titled “Blue Economy: Food Security from Coastal and Marine Resources” was convened at the JIRAP Hall, B.J. Habibie Building, Jakarta. The event brought together policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to explore strategies for harnessing coastal and marine resources to strengthen national food security.
- In Sukabumi Regency, a field discussion and site visit was organized to the natural habitat of eels, a species of significant economic value. The program aimed to deepen ecological understanding and support ongoing research into sustainable management of this high-demand commodity.
- Looking ahead, a seminar and panel discussion on “Strengthening Governance and Eel Industry Downstreaming as the Basis for National Sustainable Fisheries Policy” has been scheduled for November 13, 2026, at Bale Sawala. The forum is expected to provide critical input for shaping national policy on sustainable fisheries and industry downstreaming.
